Description: CB lets you chat with any number of callers connected to the
system, one on one or in groups. It is in many ways similar to
our conventional chat functions. There are a number of options,
however, available only in CB.
All CB commands *must* start with a slash, at the beginning of
a text line. The commands may be abbreviated to two characters
following the slash. Some of the commands are rather obvious
(i.e. /EX or /QU to exit CB) while others need to be explained
a bit more.
/ANSI In order to use split screen mode, you must have ansi
enabled. If you logged onto the system and went into
ProChat without ansi mode turned on, you may turn it
on by entering /AN. If ansi is already turned on,
entering /AN will turn it off. This command is a
toggle.
/CHANNEL There are several 'channels' available to you at any
given time while in CB. Channels allow multiple
groups of callers to converse without disturbing each
other. This command allows you to change among the
availabe channels.
/HANDLE When you first entered CB you were given the option
to use a 'handle' or an alias name. This command
allows you to change your handle anytime. You may not
use a handle which is already in use by someone else
or the word 'Sysop'.
/SQUELCH In order to have a private chat between two or more
callers a squelch value may be used. This is
accomplished by typing /SQ and choosing a 'password'.
The password can be up to 12 characters in length and
case is not important. Pressing enter with no input
will return you to public chat. If you are in private
chat, referred to as SQUELCH, and page a user that is
in CB the user will be told what squelch value to use.
/MONITOR You can keep an eye on conversations from other
channels by specifying channel numbers and a squelch
value to monitor in addition to the channel you are
on. If any text is sent on a monitored channel with
the specified squelch value, the message will be
displayed with the channel number in front of who
the message is from. Note that if you are chatting
on channel 2, monitoring channels 1 and 3, and
switch to channel 3, channel 3 will be removed from
the monitor list because you are now there. The old
channel you were on will NOT be added to the monitor
list, however.
/SEND You can send a private message to another user on any
channel. This is achieved by typing "/SE". You will
be asked for the destination number followed by the
text of the message you wish to send. Note that you
cannot use /SE unless the other caller is using CB as
well! The private message will go to any chat channel
or squelch value. No matter where the receiving party
is in CB, the message will be received.
/SPLIT Toggles between regular and split screen mode. When
in split screen mode, the screen will be divided into
two windows. The top window is where incoming messages
are displayed. The bottom window is where your typing
is displayed. While in Split Screen mode, all commands
are still available. There are also some additional
commands that are actually CTRL key combinations.
CTRL-D will decrease the size of your typing window
CTRL-L will redisplay the screen and clear the windows
CTRL-U will increase the size of your typing window
CTRL-Z will toggle a help status bar at the top of the
screen. It is off by default.
/WHO Displays a verbal list of who is chatting with you.
Only those with the same squelch value on the same
channel as you will be displayed. Do not confuse this
with the /FR command. That will display all users on
the same channel as you, irregardless of their squelch
value.
